You fail at quoting convo's:

Cory Harper says
Nono
not specifically Silence
it's power abuse to use your position to influence people to do what you want
And no matter what you do your position influences what people do when they interact with you

Edit:

This whole thread proves my point

?
dont get
fail logic
dont
understand
how
i
fail
at
quoting
convos

If it's power abuse to tell someone "You know Silence sucks, you should join a different guild, perhaps Redemption or Sanctuary", than I might as well just use the database and swap them, cause they're both power abuse, y'know.

admin position does influence way players act lol

What about when influential members of community say something and others follow? Is it "power abuse" just because they hold a staff seat? Maybe if an admin was threatening the players somehow it could be considered an abuse of power but simply making a statement like that isn't technically power abuse. I get what Muncay's trying to get at but if it isn't seen as such in the 'real world" I don't see how it can be considered so here online.

I was incorrect (pulled post from the Silence thread):

...

I'll still be adhering to that list. If any one of these people come in here posting, expect a mute; further, expect a ban if you continue to cause issues after the initial mute. If I'm demoted for upholding justice within this thread, then so be it. I won't compromise objective integrity over such petty threats...

This isn't some shades of gray ethical dilemma. Its clear who is in the wrong here. That would be Allie and the others continuing to cause unneeded drama. End it. This thread makes our community look like a joke...

Moreover, after further thought, it is uncharacteristic of an administrator or any staff member, in my opinion, to influence community matters in anyway, shape or form. It is viewed as a breach of professionalism. As a staff member, regardless of title, your responsibilities lye first with the community as a whole and second to personal involvement within the game. Any influence that can be deemed as an obstruction to community matters (Game Masters in a specific guild external of Zylon Staff, Administrators influencing players to leave select guilds, etc.), is a breech of this professionalism.

Its best, in my opinion, to seek staff that have no personal attachment to community matters. These individuals comprise qualities that are of most benefit when heading a resolution to community conflict, managing  forum/game content updates, etc. This is a bit of an idealistic statement, but, nonetheless it is an achievable one.

This can be considered power abuse, Gavin. It would be silly to deny the fact that positional power wasn't involved, in some form, in the community member's decision. There is a chance that it may not be influential, but even then, a breach of professionalism exists, which is unethical. Unethical decision making and "power abuse" are synonymous in this instance [from my perspective]. The best I can do here is point out that this is improper behavior and hope that it is corrected, as I don't have jurisdiction to mediate a resolution to this matter via "force" by muting, banning, etc.

Kenny and Izy are the benchmark standard. Dare I say that I, myself, am as well.

Unprofessional, sure, but I still don't consider it an abuse of power. I can see why others would, I just don't see it that way. Whenever the upper echelons of any community say or do something, the rest follow. If there's nothing wrong with that (aside from the part about people blindly following others), I don't think of it as being any different if that influential member of the community happens to have a staff title as well. Again, imo.

Also, I like it when you get forceful like that Opti, it makes me weak in the knees. :3

The immense difference: the "highest regarded" players in a community, in comparison, lack the professional responsibilities of staff attempting to raise a successful company from firey ash. This isn't done by continuing/promoting community conflict. A happy community is a paying community.

Again, breach of professional standards is considered unethical, which segways into "power abuse" quite easily in many, if not all instances. Normal members are held to far lower standards than the aforementioned >.>.

If you have a personal stake in the matter, then most likely, you're misinterpreting something as bias due to your own subjective stance on that single issue (refer back to staff and non-community involvement).

If you can ever find this power abuse, than I guess I should ban everyone whose ever had any influence over anyone.
Apparently having influence (for example, Tricky as a non-staff has plenty of influence over players) and using that influence to have others do as you please is power abuse, which is against the rules.
I understand where you mean because I'm an admin of authority, and thus have influence over other players, it's power abuse to abuse that influence, however having influence does not mean power abuse; I am not in any way forcing them to leave their guild, I am simply giving them reasons to do so, which any normal member can do, and any given person with the slightest bit of persuasiveness and possibly a bit of influence can do without power.

My statements were strictly made in the context of an administrator committing these actions. I've done a fairly decent job of separating a normal member from an administrator and why each have different responsibilities and how each are to act in accordance with these responsibilities.

No it's not power abuse. But admins/Gms/Mods of BC power abused over 9000 times, is anyone really surprised if Admins did power abuse? Muncay is only qqing because he doesn't want Silence members leaving the guild. Also, IMO I think Staff should have a neutral stance to all community related matters, which includes guilds.

No people leave Silence regularly, I'm qqing because an admin is "giving them reason" to do it

Why do you need Opti to tell you what what and what not to do. You're the damn admin of this game, you of all people shouldn't be told you're acting unprofessional.

I'm just saying, as an Admin, you're held to higher standards. Posting crap like this to make someone look bad is just wrong.
