One day, a person went to horse racing area, Instead of counting the number of human and horses, he instead counted 74 heads and 196 legs. Yet he knew the number of humans and horses there. How did he do it, and how many humans and horses
y = log x
If y = 10, then what is x?
im getting confused on the last part. ( http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/1637698 )
My english is bad.

Seeing as both horses and humans all have 1 head, x+y=74.
Let's say X is horse, and humans are Y.
4x+2Y=196
Therefore, the set for this is:
4x+2y=196
x+y=74
To solve this, you'd solve one of the equations by putting it in the other.
4x+2y=196
x=74-y (this is changed because the equations have to have the same X and Y coordinates.
4(74-y)+2y=196
296-4y+2y=196
296-2y=196
-2y=-100
y=50
Since y = 50, this means there were 50 humans.
Put it back into the original equation and..
x+50=74
x = 24
24 horses, 50 humans.

True...but " y = log x /If y = 10, then what is x? " What's that? :P didnt learn that stuff yet...i think o.O
quite easy
So... why exactly was my post and the subsequent ones deleted? That's got be the third or fourth time I've noticed it happen here.

My way was the only way to solve the equation.
Y does not = 10, therefore there's no point in even acknowledging that part of your post.

My math skills have decreased and I have lost the ability to solve an Y and X equation solving for both unknowns.
However, If I assume all 74 are horses then we have 296 legs.
That is 100 too many. So, I'll say that's the number of human legs since each has two instead of 4 (cuts down on the total legs to 196). That means 50 humans. I then have 96 legs left for the horses which means there are 24 horses (4 x 24 = 96).
24 horses with 96 legs
50 human with 100 kegs
Total is 196
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Btw I didn't write this,I copied and pasted it...

I'm saying that logarithm can't be used in this type of problem.
You can only do it via simple algebra.
Working on Question 1.
Nvm, question one was answered.
Woops, wrong answer forgot the heads. [Saying to self]
Question 2:
Quote from: Racenata on August 31, 2010, 07:16:47 PM
y = log x
If y = 10, then what is x?
log(10000000000) = y
x = 10000000000
log(x) = 10
log(x) = y
Therefore X is equal to 10,000,000,000.
(Log is the amount of decimal places of the numeric integer)

lol i'm confused if the horses have 96 legs why are you including that the humans have 100 kegs
50 * 2 (we all know humans have two legs) = 100
Since horses in total have 96, that would mean 100 + 96 equals to 196.
Meaning the 50 + 24 heads is a working statement.
No no i knew the answer it was for you smarties :S
