I am the administrator of my computer, and I am logged in as the administrator. But when I try to run 'System Restore,' it tells me that "The administrator of this computer has turned System Restore off blah blah blah" and won't let me open it.
Using Windows 7 on an HP Pavilion dv4 with Intel Pentium.
I have tried:
Running it normally.
Running it as an administrator.
Running it through Command Prompt.
Running it with ctrl+shift.
Taking ownership of it, then running it.
Taking ownership of it, then running it as an administrator.
Nothing's working.
On top of that, when I log into the computer normally (Not in Safe Mode), it gives me a warning that says "Windows Explorer has stopped working...," then it just closes the desktop and computer options.
What should I do?
Open task manager and run the task "C:\" so explorer.exe comes back.
Then go to the start bar, right click My Computer and click Properties.
Look at the System Restore tab to see if it's enabled.
System manager..?
In Normal or Safe Mode?
Either works.
Task manager.*
Ctrl+alt+del on most computers.
Derp. Knew that. One sec.. Working on it.
And thank you, I appreciate it.
There is no System Restore tab under Computer > Properties O.O

This is basically what I told you, but Windows 7 version.

Sh!t.
Would you have any idea of how to manually restore it? Or how to turn on fricking administrative privileges so i can use System Restore.
I just made another Administrator account, didn't work.

Didn't work :\ Still don't have admin privileges..
Would what I PMmed you about work?
Idk if this had been solved yet but,
I have the same basic problem.
Try pressing F9 or 10 at startup (I have te same laptop) and it should show something for system restore. The reason it's not working for me is the original factory settings got deleted when I installed cracked win 7.
If you did that, the only way to fix it is get the operating system on a disc, and reinstall it. This will delete EVERYTHING. as if your laptop was brand new, and all it has in it is the installed OS in it.
(I got vista with cracked win 7, trying to install xp sp2 atm.)
I might actually do that..
Would the 'Restore to factory condition' option in advanced options by system restore work?

Restoring to factory condition is much less reliable than formatting and re-installing the operating system because it relies on files and programs that are installed on your computer already.
Thus, for example, if you want to restore to factory condition because of a virus, if those files are infected, it won't do much.
But, it'll work.
:\ How do I format and reinstall the operating system?

I don't have MSN :P And I'm using Safe Mode w/ Networking so DLing it probably isn't the best idea.
Facebook or PM here?
edit
Just PM it here I guess... And thanks dude I appreciate it.
Torrents aren't the best idea, but it's okay.
It'd be much easier if you still have the operating system installation disk normally provided if you purchase a new computer or a new operating system from Windows.
I've looked everywhere and I can't find it o.O I'll look again though.
Does Redeyes know anything about Win 7?
And would it be possible to DL the operating system from an online source?
^dl from an online source? That's how my friends doing it ._.
But the rest of the stuff like formatting the disc to make it bootable, idk.
I'm resetting it cuz my brother changed the password and forgot it.
LOL that sucks D:
Idk how to format a disc tho..
Do you have the source by any chance? And is it freezor?
Don't have anythng else I woulda figured it out myself and burned it at a Friends house (computer can't burn...)
Did you get a CD with the operating system and all that ish on it when you got the comp? Cuz I don't remember getting one and can't find mine..
Nope, else woulda done that to save time.
Some pcs come with discs, others have them pre-installed on the pc. Like my laptop, computer, and ur pc D:
D4MN.
But I can't even do it off my comp - Won't let me.
Online source?
I'd highly suggest you get an operating system disk of XP.
I have literally two Vista OS disks, and three or four XP disks.
The same problem is happening to me as well but i have Toshiba satellite l550 with Windows 7 professional 64bit, my system restore doesn't work nether but i have always just ignored that problem.
Yu can get an operating system disc from stores for like $50 .-.
But you know how brown people are.

1. Turn your computer off.
2. Turn it on.
3. While the 'HP - Hewlett Packard' logo is on the screen, press 'esc.'
4. Choose the system recovery option.
5. When the three columns appear, choose the second option on the far left column.
And there you have it =D

Can you open command prompt?
I can.
From some system command, the guy already tried it. He said he could access it if I had guest account activated, but I kept it off to reduce computer usage.
Dangit dude >_>...
If you can, try typing 'rstrui.exe' and clicking enter. Might have the same problem.
