I wonder where the build a bridge term comes from... I mean.. wouldn't the sole purpose of building a bridge be to use it?

It wouldnt make much sense if it was "cry me a river, and build a bridge." so they say "...build a bridge, and get over it." #1 to say get over the problem, #2 get over the river.
Some bridges aren't over rivers.
