Title: Great new idea 'Enter Message' option
Post by: Cooky on May 16, 2013, 05:07:43 PM
(http://puu.sh/2UKGI.jpg)

Add a new check box in all pvp/sector/bvb rooms that says 'Enter Message' and when you click it you can type in a message that will show in the chat box to every player when they join the room. This would be so convenient for a lot of people.

Examples:

'All suicide'
'Don't take red boxes'
'Lucky only'
'Only doing lvl 172'
'No Jura allowed'
'Holodeck only'
'no pushing unless red hp'

etc.

So when a player joins the room it will show that on their screen in the chat box. If you have an important message to tell all players in the room you could just have it automatically tell everyone.

Or if you are waiting for a friend and so you are kicking everyone who joins their spot.. you could make the message 'sorry waiting for friend' or something, so the person knows why they aren't just being randomly kicked.

And if the room master changes the message it would reappear for all players already in the room so they would know too.

Maybe make member only? idk, up to admins

I think this is a great idea though cause its kinda lame if you are going to have specific rules of your room you have to make the room name say the rules or spam it to everyone who joins.. with this idea you can easily set it up so everyone who joins gets to know the rules automatically.

-  write it

you are essentially saying that because the task can already be done, that an easier and much more convenient way of doing it is a bad idea? that makes very little sense..

Just change the room name...
People will know what they are getting into before and not wasting time.

4 against 4, my friend. Or does the fact that two of one side are high ranking staff members imbalance it? 4 against 72, maybe?

-1 from me.
Sure it'd be convenient, but I believe making things solely for convience is bad.
You can't have too much leisure in your life, you need to work for things.

-1, have to agree with the others. You can very very simply put those same words into a macro or your room name.

How about we don't post useless things?
Thanks bud.

-1, it's not something essential to add into the game since it really only takes 1-3 seconds for people to type "Suicide or Kick" or other typical Room Master stuff in a lobby chat box.

By the logic used in this thread, microwaves, refrigerators, cars, and any other thing that makes things we can otherwise do easier, are horrid ideas that should be done away with. Why have guild, or whisper chat, we could just say it in general chat, hoping the person we want to see catches it. Anyway, even though the idea is defeated, +1

Refrigerators aren't for convenience.. they are vital in almost every circumstance when it comes to cooking. Cars are vital for the unfit of society.. microwaves are used to make some foods that aren't useable otherwise.. so yeahhhhh those things are very necessary compared to this idea .-.

Incorrect, all of the things I listed are machines used to make what we could previously do easier, they are vital to no one, they enable laziness typically. Every example you listed wasn't someone it was vital for, it was someone who liked to use said facilities in order to continue being lazy. o-o Microwaves are used to heat foods we could actually heat otherwise, lol, in a quick manner, of course. We create things in order to circumvent the effort it takes to accomplish tasks previously, using the logic that we shouldn't do that, is like saying I should go travel to Europe using a paddle boat I construct, rather than a plane.

yes the goal is to improve but
there are just some things that are unnecessary?
question mark because not sure how to explain.

No, I get what your point is, what I'm saying is that just because something is superfluous doesn't mean it should be disregarded. This idea could easily be used to help inform members joining a room further past what the room title tells them.

Nope. People need these things and people don't need this message. If fridges, microwaves and cars were removed from civilization then a lot of people would just be crippled. Doesn't matter how lazy you are if you're physically not capable of walking some distances cuz they are necessities in this day and age of society. Really comparing button clicks to mile-long walks is just going to the extreme, but hey whatever floats your boat. You're right though that the idea shouldn't just be disregarded because of the reasons mentioned but your examples were 18 different shades of stupid. Allie still said no though so ja

No one is crippled by the removal of any of those things, it's like saying humans didn't successfully survive before their invention, all you would see happen is the advent of closer communities who rely on each other, etc, etc, no more travelling long distances though. I didn't compare button clicks to mile long walks, I compared using a message to inform people of something to using a device to make something easier, a car included. (Personally I walk multiple miles a day, if you find that hard you are fairly out of shape) You always had a nack for making baseless accusation, "your examples were 18 shades of stupid." You argued we have the need for microwaves, give me a break. Allie's opinion means very little to me, whether this is instituted as an update means very little to me, just making points for one side or the other.

99.9% of society will disagree with you on this opinion vs opinion issue, i'll let the fact that the world needs these things speak for me and stop here.

99.9% of society has grown used to said facilities, they like them, they don't need them. Majority opinion is not the correct opinion, simply the popular one. Your point doesn't really speak for itself, but I'm tired anyway, goodnight

This suggestion is pointless and a waste of time, when we already have three options that are perfectly fine.

Oooh a debate...  How fun.

Although I agree with most of your points, there are some flaws in why you're defending this suggestion.  We need a car, microwave, and refrigerator mainly because of efficiency.  For example, when people used covered wagons and horses to travel in a historical event (in America) called the "Oregon Trail" it took 5-6 months to go from Oregon to California.   With a car it takes approximately 10 hours if you drive non-stop and probably 3-4 days realistically.
Let's assume that every month has 29 days.
5 * 29 = 145  145 - 4 = 141
6 * 29 = 174 174 - 4 = 170
That's a whopping 141-170 days saved in a persons life just because of the car, and I don't know about you but I would rather spend 6 days driving than 170 days on a covered wagon.

With the implementation of this "button" that you think is so genius how much time would it save versus typing it? Let's just say this suggestion is automatic so it goes in 0-1 second after the person enters the room.  Now let's pretend the average person types at 50 WPM.  "Suicide or Kick" is a common 3 worded phrase that many players use so...
50/60 = .834
.834 * 3 = 2.5
1 second versus 2.5 seconds doesn't save that much time.
Also you have to consider that Allie and Kenny would have to spend quite a bit of time to code this suggestion into the game just to save 1.5 seconds of a persons life.

Hope this explains why I personally don't think this is a good idea lol..

Lets lets get rid of our cars and go back to the days where we live in small areas, lets also throw away any weapons we use to hunt they are also not completely necessary, we can just use are hands to kill animals. Computer or entertainment? Nope, lets just sit there staring at the sky. Medicine? Nope, lets trust out immune system, school? Nah common sense, structures?  Nah, we don't need it. Medicine or ways to help injured people? Nah, leave them there to fend for themselves. Things to help crippled people like wheel chairs? Nah.  ::)

To be fair, yes people do need them in order to live as that is the way humans have changed and adapted. Of course some people would be able to survive, but if those machines were to just disappear right now you can go kiss 90% of the population good bye. Not every person is completely fit to walk, and competent enough to survive.  ::)

Don't forget that the person would have to type in the message every time a new room is made, or they could just make a macro and press 1 button.  ::)
