It's more about personal preference.
I play Surge PvP and can't stand using rush. When playing opponents with good connection I usually use Guard Crush, otherwise I'll use Uppercut. Occasionally in 1v1's I also like using Ion Wave, although I don't recommend it since it's tough to get the hang of.
As said before, Patch excels with Uppercut.
