1. Open up GIMP
2. Take a random image from google (ie
http://www.kbdeejays.com/images/Platinum-Light-Show%20Slide.jpg)
3. Filters > Noise > Pick
4. Check randomize and set randomization and repeat to the full blast
5. Filters > Repeat Pick
6. Windows > dockable dialogs > layers
7. Duplicate your picked render three times for a total of four layers
8. Go to the second picked copy and go to filters > artistic > gimpressionist > furry > apply > OK
9. Set this layer to screen and keep it at 100%
10. Go to the second picked copy and go to filters > artistic > gimpressionist > crosshatch > apply > OK
11. Keep this layer at normal but lower the opacity (mine's at around 40%)
12. Go to the final layer and go to filters > gaussian blur > keep the settings and hit OK
13. Set this layer to screen and lower the opacity (mine's at around 55%)
14. Look at the final result -- a few minutes just made you an interesting starter background.
