Png extensions can't get renamed otherwise on my pc

I think you can just rename them on xnview, cant you? When I tried to make a mod thats what I did.. I never used Winrar or anything.

Or you can just copy the image from xnview to photoshop and when you're done editing save as the respective file name.

Photoshop will give me errors when I do that, but when I rename it to .png, then change it back to the original extension, it does open it, and boutcheetah works with it too. Ain't seeing any logic here.
