Message from our beloved GM ZeroUH, who recently quit.
I have respect for this message, and I feel as if nothing will really change, but the more people know about it, the better.

This video is spoken in english, subtitled in portuguese.

No, I'm not going to the world cup.

There's no need for fun facts.
This is a serious video/thread.
If you don't care, then don't post.

Boo hoo. Vancouver hosted the Olympics in 2010, and for that our whole province is still paying 12% tax to pay off our debt for the cost of hosting.

Everywhere the Olympics committee go, they leave the country or province hosted in debt for the next few years. It's like a ****ing disease, and the short-term local economic boost they get from it isn't close to what it costs the rest of the population.

It isn't as bad as Brazil since nobody's dieing or anything, but this isn't something new either.

By the way, it's going to happen regardless of whether people go to the world cup or not. The fact that you aren't going means there's going to be less profit out of it and your country's going to be in a bigger pot-hole than if people did decide to go and benefit the economy there to some degree. >___>

Well considering you said you don't think the video will change anything, all the video is is just a bunch of facts. Me posting an additional fact is not the crisis your making it out to be.

Thats the reality where i live...
A lots of protests happening EVERY day around diferente parts of the country, and theres Always a protest in the place where Brazil will play for the Confederations Cup. The police acted violently more than once, a lot of ppl were hurt, A REPORTER OF THE ESPN TEAM HERE  TOOK A SHOOT OF A RUBBER BULLET. ANOTHER REPORTER OF ESPN SUFFERED IN THE CLOUD OF TEAR GAS THAT POLICEMANS THREW. There is a lot of things to talk about Brazil situation and protests but i cant and wont write and im not informed of all of them. In the other side the protests were SOMETIMES exaggerated but it doesnt justify the police acts. My dad is worried about a crisis after the world cup also. This vídeo didnt talk about the public schools that are very bad in general.
An interesting pôster said: Now that we have stadiums with fifa standard we need schools and hospitals with fifa standard

... :-\
Thanks ang and spidey for the sigs! :3

Exactly why it should not be done.

It isn't as bad as Brazil since nobody's dieing or anything, but this isn't something new either.

Your wording for the above sentence is terrible.

"It isn't as bad as Brazil"

It? It what? What is "it"? Vancouver? The Olympics committee? Not as bad as Brazil? You are comparing Brazil with "it"? Valcover is not as bad as Brazil? This event is not as bad as Brazil? Anyways, do you mean that this event will is that that bad for Brazil because "Nobody's dieing or anything?" If so...

Police have injured and "killed" people thanks to this, kicking gangs out of the dark places and pushing them in the open streets, and the protestors. The medical rooms are filled to the top thx to this so some people die before they can get treated. People are being kicked out of their homes leading them to a life of poverty and even - death - suicide - etc, and in addition to  being kicked out of their house they are forced to pay for this though taxes. There is the rise in partying, doing stupid things, increase in drugs and etc.

By the way, it's going to happen regardless of whether people go to the world cup or not.

Your wording for this is one sided. Going by "whether people go to the world cup or not," assumes two possibility, one that the stadium and everything is already setup and built, so yes if it is already setup and built then ofc it is going to happen because it already has. Secondly you can consider the fact of people "not going," may be because the event did not actually happen so ofc people would not be going to the event because it never hapend, which contradicts what you said. Anyways if you meant that people complaining and protesting about it wont fix it then read this:

You listen here, it is better to fight and lose with a chance to win then to not fight at all and lose. You need to stand up in order to change your life for the better, don't be a lazy ***** assuming things wont change. There is power in numbers it is like saying if you don't recycle it will not make any difference. If the police came to your house and said to get out they are going to destroy it right now so they can build a stadium will you just say; "Oh, sure, go right ahead, I will get out of your way then."

The fact that you aren't going means there's going to be less profit out of it and your country's going to be in a bigger pot-hole than if people did decide to go and benefit the economy there to some degree. >___>

Why are you addressing the person in the vid? "The fact that you aren't going." Anyways see below on how this person not going to it will not affect it at all.

For the people who live there, no. If you noticed from the video most of the money goes to fifa and people who already have money, thus money will be circulation out of Brazil by a lot, meaning there will be less money in Brazil. The only money the government will get out of this is the taxes. However in the end the people are going to spend their money. As for tourist yes, they will lose some however because of people like you they do not really care, the only ones who do care are those who live there.

"It" was referring to Vancouver's situation. We are just being heavily taxed. They are shooting rubber bullets at the protestors. The end result is we're just a first world country going on debt and they're a second-world country. They can't handle a worse economy and other problems relating to the hosting of the world cup.

By the way, it's going to happen regardless of whether people go to the world cup or not.

wtf did u just say i didnt get a single sentence.

The event is happening regardless. Whether you people (the people of Brazil who are mainly against it) don't show up or support the event. I'm stating that protesting it will make things worse.

Again, "you" being the people of Brazil. The main source of income for Brazil (aside from shit the government gets) is tourism. It's a huge impact for the local economy for thousands of football fans to show up in a country where they overcharge tourists and kick-start their economy a bit. I could personally care less about the whole situation since it doesn't directly affect me, but if the locals aren't going to show support, why would the tourists? There goes the little bit of profit the locals would have gotten from tourism too.

Exactly why it should not happen in the first place, Brazil can't handle it as well as Vancouver.

By the way, it's going to happen regardless of whether people go to the world cup or not.

Yeah you did not get it, let Ross simplify it for you. Your statement is biased. It is like saying people don't go to a candy store store to support it, and in reality they do not go the candy store because the candy store does not actually exist, so they can't actually go to it. However in this case if you say people DO GO to it "Whether people go to the world cup." The only way they can GO to the world cup would be if the world cup already exists, thus that means the world cup was already built at that point, so yes it would be hard to stop something from being build that is already built. The same can go the the people not going, they may be not going to the world cup because the world cup does not exist because the government chose to cancel it.

The second paragraph way saying, yes you can change things, if you put your voice out there and ti is heard there is a chance for it to change. If people raise there voice there is a chance the government will cancel it and say **** you fifa. However it they do not raise their voice (protest) it is an automatic lose for them.

The fact that you aren't going means there's going to be less profit out of it and your country's going to be in a bigger pot-hole than if people did decide to go and benefit the economy there to some degree. >___>

Why are you addressing the people in Brazil who are protesting? Then talking about how the tourism is the main source of income. The people in Brazil does not matter for their income so addressing them to shut up and go wont earn Brazil money, it will actually make Brazil lose money, because most of it will go to fifa which will leave Brazil. The "you" should not be address at Brazil however the tourists outside of Brazil who are going to bring in (little) money.

It won't kick start their economy, they are losing money out of this, not gaining. Sure they will have a rise of popularity for a little while but then it will die down, and they will have less money that they had before this, and the rise of popularity and tourism from other country will drop. If they wanted a real kick start they would spend that money on more beneficial "things" (yes "things").

Aside from your "contradictory" paragraph, (which i still don't understand, lal)

Think of what happened to Vancouver. Every hotel within a 100km radius was packed with tourists. These people will eat, shit, sleep, and spend their money on the local economy. The locals will obviously rip off them since they don't know exchange rates or someshit.

Brazilian people will obviously get something from this world cup. Sure, the actual cost for tickets and merchandise will go to FIFA, but the rest of the money they're spending to live there during the world cup will go straight to the economy.

If Brazilians are saying "gtfo we don't want a world cup", then tourists won't come. The world cup will happen. less than expected audience. less money for Brazil.

Simple as that.

Ross doubts the tourists would not come anyways if the stadium is built, they would probably be like you and don't give a **** because it is not them who is suffering. Besides like Ross said the money has better uses than this world cup if they want ed to impact the economy for the well better of the people. The main people would would be gaining is the people in the government taking the taxes for their own needs, store owners, hotels owners, ect will also have a rise, however it would not help the lower class worker one bit where their wages stay the same by the hour. The only impact on them is they will have to work a crap load harder / possible over time. Then there is the waste factor, tourists don't give a **** about keeping other places clean.  ::)

More poor people will be hired if more tourists spend at local businesses. The bottom line is the same though, Brazil can't handle it at this point.

Basic economics, Ross.
