Most obscene / vulgar / sexually innuendos words in the English language are censored, there you have it  try not to bypass the censor

I think they are censored so that certain advertisements can be put on the site. Not entirely sure though.

Could be this. I remember being a part of a forum once, and because of this an inappropriate images it breached their contract so it was either remove what had been posted, or they'd close down the forum/sit.

That's not it. Or if it is then that's retarded. That would mean that you'd have to censor words on your website just to avoid tons of porn ads. That's not the case. Assuming they're using googleAdsense, there's probably a bult-in way to stop ads like that.
