most of us have been calling for it, but honestly, why isn't there a korean channel? surely it would have to be the simplest solution

Democratic Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Republic of Korea (ROK) are their official terms ;o.

To lose technicality, Korea can refer to the Republic of Korea, which is the south.
But you're right technically, because there is no single nation with the official name of Korea.
