log both sides:
log (7^x) = log (2^x-1)

take the x and x-1 outside log:
x log7 = (x-1) log 2

multiply out:
x log 7= x log 2 - log 2

x log 7 - x log 2 = - log 2
x (log 7 - log 2) = - log 2

x = - log 2 / (log 7 - log 2) = -0.553

You can run 1280x960 res in windowed mode even if your pc does not support that resolution. It will just show a windowed mode with bits cut off. Do you know the resolution of your screen. If you don't, go to control panel > Display > resolution. It should tell you there.
