So i was thinking of making my own signature and so on most for fun, but i dont know what program i shall use, anyone has an idea? it have to be free :p
Hi exp, i think u should ask mat,he prob knows a good program :-*
GIMP 2 / Photoshop
GIMP 2 is a free program, easy to use and to get around with easy signatures.
------------------------------------------------------
Photoshop is a paid program, but can be cracked using a youtube guide for example (thats how i got mine :d) it is harder to use but has more functions then GIMP has.
as ian said you can either use gimp or ps (those two are the most famous). i mostly use gimp and i can assure you it's perfect for beginner to intermediate level signatures, since it's way more user friendly than photoshop and has as many features. for higher level signatures photoshop is indeed better though. i'd suggest you starting with gimp and upgrade later.
Okay thanks you all :D gonna start right away editing, gimp it is, i might get photoshop later if i feel like :)

you're either a GIMPer or a PSer.
Starting gimp and then going to PS is a waste of time. They're two different things. It's like using a mac after having an acer aspire 5733.
Okay ill check the link out :) thanks! as is now i feel fully satisfied with gimp :3

at a point where you have good skills in gimp you can do good aswell in ps and you know gfx techniques already
Siding with Iri, I used both, started with gimp way back when.
okay, since i started with gimp now i might aswell keep using it :3

Well I started with Photoshop and then when I went to Gimp it was just weird getting used to the placement of everything.
PS = More user friendly imo for basic things but there's a ton of advanced techniques as well.
i found the latest gimp version kinda worse tho, they changed some controls and they aren't as direct as before imo
but maybe it's just me being used to the old layout

Nah, it really did downgrade.
Never did use GIMP, but I know that a program that is free will never be as good as a highly recommended program as photoshop that you have to pay for(or pirate hehe-haha).
I would skip GIMP and go staight to PS, because I know down the road... you will certainly switch to PS if you ever get serious. I would say cut to the chase TBH.
Everybody has a cracked version of Photoshop.
I use photoshop, always have. When I made a sig with GIMP I was confused as to what the hell was going on. Photoshop came easier to me ;/
Let me just drop a bomb. Everyone who has gained some reputation through gfx here has done it using PS, not gimp.
ya the dude tho isnt looking for a beast gfxer reputation but to start making signatures
i dont agree, anyway ::)

You're wrong though. The old GFXers of 2010 were actually as good as the new ones, Hawk & Met not included as they're old & new.

I know...? Dude I'm saying actually compare them. I haven't a clue who you're talking about.

i did, in my head l0l
and i haven't noticed a big change.there were people like izy and davy back then, but that's not rly the point is it? the point is that people here have used gimp and done sigs as good as ones done on PS.
Alright, so.... I downloaded GIMP to do some comparisons and have realized that this program is ridiculously difficult to control. Not saying I did not know how to use most of the features... because I did, they were just allot harder to access. It was also difficult to adjust brush setting and to insert layers and tamper with them.
Smudging in Gimp would be nearly impossible to get an outcome that you may see from some of the best smudgers in tagging, and smudging recently seems to be playing a rather large role.
I also know that PS is so widely used by professionals and is remarkably easy to pirate online. Because this allot of the Pro's and the Knowledgeable/Talented graphic artist make things like Brushes, tutorials and PSD's more well.. accessible and come in a much larger quantity and quality
With all that being said.. GIMP isn't a terrible program. GIMP just seems to be less user friendly and lacks some of the quality adding features that PS gives to it's customers and users.
Of course a GIMP user could make a nice signature depending on what style you use,
Smudging is far out of the question. I think if it was GIMP vs PS, the PS user would win most the times. Of course the GIMP could win once or twice, but the PS has the advantage, plus the resources.
But then again this is all opinion based and to each person their own. No use arguing about it.
I honestly with all my heart would rather you use PS.
"GIMP just seems to be less user friendly"
good1
dont use ps
gimp > ps
GIMP got less user friendly in its last update.
y u update then
