before you open it, you have to rename the extension as .png or any other format used by your editing program (ps)

its better to move it elsewhere (right click -> copy in) then rename and open it from there (from exaple the desktop)

I use gimp and Xnview. With gimp you do not have to rename it when you open/edit it (well you have to rename it but only after your done editing when you export it).

I like PS more plus I have problem with Gimp. Which we can discuss in PM or make another topic.
