Also this was a stock so I decided to just use the bg it came with

And the BG is really ugly. You should've at least change the color and add a few c4ds to make it stand out. Pen tool an aura maybe? Oh well, I love the text/render but bg kills it.

I think he c/p the render layer, vectored it behind the text layer. Like you put the opacity of text layer to 0%, add a 1 pt stroke then yeah..

Edit*: Spider's text doesn't even look like it has a stroke..
