no you cant make actual holes obviously but you can make the holes look a lot more realistic and 3D-like then just literally selecting the black paint brush and randomly clicking around lol. Spider did say to add black spots but he also said to make it look realistic. Cheese doesnt have black spots, it has holes. Try to make it look like holes and not black spots, and it will be a lot more realistic.  This is just my opinion of course.

I don't know how to select a paint brush in XNview.

I also dont know if there is a paint brush tool in XNview or maybe you mean another modding software
