maybe you are too high with lvl 188 and get only half exp.
I played 204 today and got 5200 exp which usually is 2600 for non-members.

Levels 183+ only receive 220 EXP on 172 because they are a much higher level.

Went and got 1 year membership today :).  So what day of the week are the coins and stuff added to our accounts ?
