I don't know why the gods aren't in use atm but I think they're a sign of pvp achievement.  If you have a god then it means that you're a skilled pvper that can defeat an opponent with the odds against them.

And i think some of those that have them dont deserve them anymore. they dont even play with them. Its basicly going out and getting a brand new toy, and throwing it in the closet and not caring about it.
